| Thursday, October 28, 2010 I think I'm finally moving out of this place. I hope pitas never goes down even though it's not that popular, I like how easy it is to make the layouts and stuff. But I am not a patient person now. anyway here's a trendy new thing: http://castform.tumblr.com/ ![]() Well I've been taking an English class about literary method this semester and I think it has convinced me for sure that I'll be declaring at least a minor in English. It was pretty interesting to finally be able to put a name on that method we use in highschool and see why theoretically it's not great for college writing... I've never really thought I was a fan of 'theory' or backgrounds to subjects (discrete math ergggh) but so far this has proven quite interesting. Countdown until I fail hard at the end of the semester: 3 MONTHS... Apparently there's this method called 'New Criticism' which is how many highschools do things, because it's easy for people who aren't that interested. If I'm remembering, it assumes the text is already something (intentionally?) complicated and so to analyze it we dig out the devices to prove ambiguity/paradox/irony. That's the words my textbook uses... it's suprisingly accurate, thinking back to IB the conclusion of an essay would always be something like that. Anyway, it's a kind of 'formalism' which is appropriate to say, I guess, it is very formal and how often are you recommended to give your opinion, as opposed to picking out more from the lines, or making it more clear that your conclusion is WELL THIS POEM COULD BE TAKEN EITHER WAY... New Criticism isn't too bad because it makes analysis very structured but it probably has to go with some other theory to get anything productive... to compare it kind of provides evidence for something. According to the readings, the things that analysis tries to prove tends to come from some kind of bias, like blind patriotism or religious faith. What we got to talk about today was something along the lines of how those institutions shouldn't be so proud of their intellectualism when their arguments are mostly ignorant of the things that they consider themselves being superior to. I don't know where new theories for analysis can come from, probably the individual? I don't know if people these days come up with decent new political or philosophical theories... Of course this relies on someone actually having interest in these fields in the first place... Anyway, it is interesting, even if I don't know what I would do about it... God dammit I wish I had some non textbooks to read ![]() I wanted to try to copy the people who can make pictures that have crazy saturated colors. Here is how to fake it, sort of... It's just a funny photoshop filter. Depending on how smooth the shading on the original was, the final thing will be more painful to look at (which is kind of the goal.) You can use photos or detailed things for extra headaches (artist is in the filename.)
OW MY EYES. ![]() AUUGHHH I am so lazy The new school year has already started (well... it was 3 weeks about) and although moving in was about at painful as it was moving out with the box delivery and breaking and things, the semester has been pretty good so far. Since I'm not taking a !!!MANDATORY LANGUAGE CLASS!!! for once in my life, I was about to get into a drawing class. For a couple of lessons we basically drew similiar looking naked models but overall it is quite relaxing even though I get up 7 in the morning to take a bus to it. Tuesdays and Thursdays are busy, but all the other days are pretty clear, I have NOTHING in Friday. Pictures from the past few months that don't suck: ![]() The new pokemon starters, drew this a few days after their pictures were released, but now the actual games are out. I am very behind. Sinziar's birthday was a while ago and I drew this because she is cool, and then I didn't draw anything for a long time. These are her characters.
Something like a thinking hat picture I did in 2007. It's scrappy so I'm not linking it conveniently... ![]() ![]() Summer has been pretty boring so far. I don't go out much, it's so humid and the air makes me sort of sick, sicker than where I was in the US anyway :P It's also raining every day. I like rain... when I'm indoors. ![]() ![]() Bleh... drawing for some new idea but I don't think it will get any elaboration :/ Ssssome people might think these guys look familiar, otherwise they are set up to have one element each (except for the middle girl, represents human type/shapeshifters.) Sea monsters are missing, though hmmmmm.... My sister and I have been watching new shows that say they are coming soon but actually air everywhere except HK. We watch more things this way. ![]() ![]() |
